DL140 RAID Management?
I recently purchased a DL140 server for a customer because it seemed like a good cost effective option for the application I was planning to implement. I was quite horrified to find out that these servers do not support the Insight Manager agents, but I've moved on from that.
Since I like to make sure that all my servers have RAID protection and decent disks, the server was purchased with an 'HP 8 Internal Port SAS HBA with RAID' and a pair of SAS hotplug drives. It all works fine (at the moment).
However, since there's no Insight Manager support, I cannot find any way of getting any form of notification from the server or RAID controller in the event of a drive failure. None of the array configuration / diagnostic utilities or the iLO will even see the controller. Is the only way of detecting a failure physically looking at the LEDs on the drives?
Since I don't physically visit the server everyday, my concern here is that a drive fails and the RAID deals with the failure, but the failure is not noticed so the drive is not replaced. Then another drive fails.......
Has anyone else got a solution to this issue?

Re: DL140 RAID Management?
Sure! Look actually the 100 series are not Proliants but they have to utilities for RAID management and diagnostics. They both are downloadable form www.HP.com,. but actually they are not support by the DL140 G1 series. only for g2 and g3 but also you can try them:
HP ProLiant Smart Array SAS/SATA Event Notification Service for Windows Server 2003:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/26008.html
HP SATA RAID Controller Manager for Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24806.html
HP SATA RAID Controller Manager for Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24806.html
OK, there you got, but actually I cannot promise you that this is gonna work well with your server or gonna work at all, we didn't tested before
Thanks

Re: DL140 RAID Management?
Hi There, thanks for your reply.
I have tried all those utilities, but none of them seem to support the 'HP 8 Internal Port SAS HBA with RAID' controller. I either get messages saying that the utility is not supported on the hardware, or the utility loads but does not see any controllers it wants to manage.
The controller I purchased is listed in the quickspecs for the server, so I would've thought there would've been some software available to manage it.
