Hi,
I have DL140 G2 machine running CentOS Linux.
Unfortunately I cannot use speedstep technology. Does anyone know if there are any issues or if motherboard does not support it?
My CPU model:
SL7ZC , 3.6GHz Xeon, fsb 800MHz.
According to documentation it should support it.
Any ideas?
Thank you for help,
regards,
Jacek Nykis

Hello Jacek,
SpeedStep is an INTEL proprietary.
Look at the CHIPSET required for this feature, as mentioned by intel:
http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/products/box_processors/desktop/proc_dsk_p4/technical_reference/203838.htm
DL140 G3 has a Intel Chipset E7520 with 800MHz Front Side Bus, which DOES NOT meet the criteria;
Refer: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12205_div/12205_div.html
Again, as per intel,
http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=528&sSpec=&OrdCode=
There are no 3.6Ghz processor that will support SpeedStep;
As per HP, DL140 G2 will support:
* Intel Xeon 3.6GHz processor with 2M L2 Cache
* Intel Xeon 3.4GHz processor with 2MB L2 Cache
* Intel Xeon 3.4GHz processor with 1MB L2 Cache
* Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processor with 2M L2 Cache
* Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processor with 1M L2 Cache
& only the 2.8Ghz with 2MB L2 cache fits this Criteria, PROVIDED the Chipset is a match;
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL8UB
Hence, Clearly, as per my research, SPEEDSTEP CANNOT be achieved in a DL140 G2;
Regards.
