DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Hi,
I have memory problems with an DL145 G2 dual Opt.252 80 Gb SATA and XP64 loaded
The machine comes with 2 Gb Ram.
Now we have to update with 6 Gb ram.
All 1 Gb HP original modules.
The server start only with 2 Gb fitted...4 or 6 Gb reboot the server when loading just boot.ini file.
The Bios (updated to last avaible) correctly report all memory configuration fitted.
The chips are all good....infact with only 2 modules, all of this goes boot and then works fine when os is loaded.
The problems exist even with XPpro64 or Server2003x64 NEW installation procedures...when OS just begin loading the sistem reboot.
Can anyone help us ?

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Let me see if have picked this up correctly.

You have 6Gb of memory in the server.
And windows is only detecting 2Gb?

And when 6Gb of memory is installed Os loads up and reboots?

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Also windows Xp is not supported on this server.
Second windows Xp only supports 4Gb of Memory if you want to use more memory install a server edition operating system.

List of supported operating systems
Solaris 10 (32/64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2003 Web Edition (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2003 for Extended Systems Standard Edition (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 2003 for Extended Systems Enterprise Edition (64-bit)
Red Hat Linux AS/ES/WS 3 and 4 (32- and 64-bit)
SUSE Linux 8 (32- and 64-bit)
SUSE Linux 9 (32- and 64-bit)
VMware Virtualization Software

Third
You haven't got any of the system management agents installed on the server as Xp is not supported, that could also be causing this problem.

Have you tried installing the server with 2Gb of memory in the server and adding the rest afterwards?

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Hi,
the server works correctly with 2Gb (two modules 1 Gb each) and win XP-64.
If added other 2 or 4 dimms (each originals Hp 1 Gb modules) fitted as suggested from HP, the server DON'T BOOT and restart just when init loading OS.
Even a NEW installation of WINXP-64 or WinServer2003-64 fail when procedure just start load Windows interface (only DOS screens works.)
BIOS alway report the exact amount of RAM fitted.
Any ideas

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Nobody can help us ?
We have 4 modules of HP original memory that we can't use at the moment...
But the most wrong is that we can't render projects that requires more of 2 Gb ram...

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Enrico,

Check with the attached DL145 G2 memory configuration document that you are following the correct procedure for adding memory and in the recommended slot order.

I hope this helps.

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Brian,

yes of course, we have populated the dimms slots us suggested by this document and others similar that are in Hp DL145 G2 support pages, without results.
Have you any other idea ?

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

I can only suggest that you log a call with HP and request 4 X 1Gb memory dimms supplied by them as spares to prove that your other memory is (is not) good.

Spare part number for the 1Gb dimms.

378914-001.

Brian

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

I am running 4 GB in a dual core DL145 G2. W2003 R2 64 bit with not problem. Make sure the 4 GB is on processor 1.

Re: DL145 G2 memory upgrade problems

Hi David,
my configuration is not a DualCore but a dual Singole Core (Opteron 252).
Strange your configuration of Dimms, that seems not supported on HP official guidelines for memory fitting.
Only a question...are you using original Chips or others branded, like my Kingstone ?

Thank you very much.
