DL160G6 - 2 bays in model 490442-421, extendable to 4?

Hello

I'm looking to buy a HP DL160G6, part number 490442-421 (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06b/15351-15351-3328412-3328421-3328421-3884343-3919180.html)

From what I've been reading this version of the DL160G6 ships only with 2 hot-swap bays, but there is an extension option available, part number 512181-B21 (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/sg/en/sm/WF06c/A1-329290-64245-64448-64448-254784-3923702.html)

Is that extension part compatible / enough to be able to use 4 hot-swap harddrives in this server?

Thanks,

Glenn

Hi!

From the documentation:

NOTE: Installation of the Hot Plug Backplane 1U 2S Kit (512181-B21) is required if ordering third or fourth Hard Drives for Hot Plug models only.

And as you are a new member, please don't forget to give points :)

Re: DL160G6 - 2 bays in model 490442-421, extendable to 4?

Hello

I read that too in the quickspecs, unfortunately it does not say whether or not it's compatible with the server I want (490442-421). Since the quickspec sheet mentions that model has only 2 hot-swap bays, it makes me wonder if it has room voor 2 more additional drives, regardless if it ships with the backplane or not.

The option kit only works for hot-plug models and the number you have is a hot plug model.

The raid controller doesn't have any problems with four disks.

The documents do not mention any need to change backplanes to get the two extra bays.

Glenn,

The DL160G6 Hot-plug has always room for 4 disks, only the backplane is 2 or four disks enabled. So you just need to purchase the 4HDD bacplane kit (512181-B21).
You can find illustration (sometimes more useful than words) by downloading the maintenance & service guide
