DL180 G6 - server wont start (no bios) after memory install
Hi,
Last night I tried to upgrade a customers server with a Kingston 4gb memory card. On starting the server it would not even get into bios (monitor didnt get signal, fans running at 100). Removed the new card and server boots fine.
I actually had two idenitical cards, one for another server and both cards produced the same fault.
The card is a Kingston "KTH-PL316ES/4g" - the kingston website suggests it is compatible with the DL180 G6.
I installed them to the second white slot nearest the processor (first white slot already occupied)
Any ideas?

From the Service and Maintenance manual http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=3884339
Item - Description - Spare Part No. - Customer Self-Repair

Unregistered DIMMs (UDIMMs)

DIMM, 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600E-9 501540-001 Mandatory1
Use original HP parts when possible or look up the detailed specs on the module that is already installed and make sure the specs are exactly the same. I do not recommend mixing DIMMs in the same system. First choice would be ordering more of the same HP memory (can try the used market as well since it is a G6) or maybe try both Kingston DIMMs in the same system. (Try it with just one Kingston DIMM to see if they are compatible with the DL180.)

Re: DL180 G6 - server wont start (no bios) after memory install
Is there any way to check the existing memory card type without opening the server up? If only Id thought of this before, but I was more concerned with getting the servers to work again.

I'm only familiar with Windows Server but if they have HP Insight Diagnostics installed you can use that to get detailed hardware information.
