DL180 and SATA drives

Dear all,

I would like use third party harddrives in a DL180 Server.
Is the SATA/SAS backplane fully compatible with SATA 2 ?
Is SA-P400 fully compatible with SATA 2 ?

Any experience will be appreciate.

Best regards,
Bernard

Re: DL180 and SATA drives

According to specs, the P400 controller is only SATA-I compliant (so 150MBps), but 300MBps with SAS.

You can't use 3rd party drives anyway as they won't come with the hot-swap caddy, which must be used to slot them in. There is no accomdation to screw disks into the drive bays.

Re: DL180 and SATA drives

First of all, thanks for your reply.

Okay, if the P400 is only SATA150 I'd rather use a third party controller, it's possible ?

What type of connector is used on the backplane SFF-8087 ?

Best regards,
Bernard

Re: DL180 and SATA drives

I just discover the new HP Smart Array P410 controller.
So I don't need third party controller.

In this way, I could replace existing drives in my trays with standard SATA300 drives, and the will be operating and at full speed ?

Best regards,
Bernard
