DL180G5 unstable with P400/SATA GB0750C8047
I got 7x DL180 replacement boxes for DL320s (which works like charm) and from beginning I'v got strange issues with stability of DL180. All issues are related to controller P400 with SATA drives. Seen countless lockups, false detection of drive replacement's (removals), lockups after rebuild finished.
From 84 disks 8 had been replaced and 2 are pending replacement and all that in less than a month.
Im using suse which works fine with DL360/DL380/DL320s ( P200/400/800 with sas drives and older model sata drives)
some technical junk:
in all other boxes im able to specify slot for work with controller .. but here it's not detected.
------------------------------------------------
# hpacucli ctrl all show
Smart Array P400 in Slot ATTR_VALUE_SLOT_UNKNOWN(sn: P61630KxxxxxxT)
------------------------------------------------
by specifying serial number it's possible to use hpaccucli but anyway ..
# hpacucli ctrl sn=P6163xxxxxxxxT pd 2I:1:1 all show detail

one idea is that maybe firmware of hdd is too "green" and some issues hadn't been fixed, as previous model had HPG4 already, but I searched all around hp.com and it seems for GB0750C8047 there isn't newer firmware (at moment).
Anyone experienced same thing? Any suggestions?

Re: DL180G5 unstable with P400/SATA GB0750C8047
I read something about ml115 g5 using those HDD and instability issues and workaround was update system ROM for the server

Re: DL180G5 unstable with P400/SATA GB0750C8047
Yes, i was agonize with this server, my SAS internal disk didn't recognized and problem is in motherboard, so, i think that integrated controller has some kind of bug in this proliant product line and what is worse: you cannot diagnose problem easily.
i were replace firstbackplane, than sasa cable and after that server is go down and only way is to replace motherboard.
I'm disgruntled.

Did you solve your problem?
I have exact the same problem with DL180, but HDDs in my case are GB1000EAFJL.

Re: DL180G5 unstable with P400/SATA GB0750C8047
2 days ago a important advisory about these problems is released :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01635651тМй=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3580698&prodTypeId=15351
About the "ATTR_VALUE_SLOT_UNKNOWN" when executing hpacucli ctrl all show, check :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01614600тМй=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3580698&prodTypeId=15351
As for the firmware update of the HDD, latest is HPG6 (like mentioned in the 1st advisory):
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3580698&swItem=MTX-698bd3ce0811448d81285d2aff&mode=5
Hope this clears the situation somehow.
Regards,
Blazhev
