DL185 Wide SAS connections

Does anyone know why the 8 bay backplane on a Dl18 server has 2X SFF8484 connections but the 12bay one only has a signle connection?

 

Only reason I ask is I want to free up one of the internal ports on our 8 bay server for an  internal SSD drive which we will be mounting inside the server
