DL320 G4 (391657-421) with 2x 250GB SATA: what raid controller?
Hello,
I have some DL320 G4 servers (391657-421) with 2x250GB SATA in mirror. They are used as shared webhosting servers (MS W2K3).
As you probably know this server comes with an integrated controller that does only support RAID-1 and does not support hot-swap and the disk lights.
I was wondering that:
1. it is a good idea to use a RAID controller i.o. the onboard controller. (I don't know why but I don't trust this onboard controller :-) )
2. what RAID controller is supported because I can not find any supported card.
P.S. This thread has been moevd from Disk to ProLiant Servers (ML,DL,SL). - Hp Forum Moderator

Re: DL320 G4 (391657-421) with 2x 250GB SATA: what raid controller?
Hi,
Refer to DL320 G4 QuickSpecs here for compatible Storage Controllers.
For HP ProLiant DL320 G4 models purchased with Celeron or Pentium-D 800 Series processors, PCI-X is only supported as a Factory Integrated Option.
Thank You!

The embedded RAID controller is an Intel chipset software RAID controller and requires a special driver for the RAID functionality. The supported Smart Arrays for that system were the E200 and P400. Both controllers need the DL320 SAS/SATA Hot Plug Cable option kit (398307-B21 )
