DL320 G4 - Upgrade storage

We have a DL320 G4 server with 2x 80GB SATA disks attached to the onboard SATA controller configured in a Raid 1 set.
We would like to upgrade the storage by installing an E200 controller and 2x 500GB SATA disks. Can we install the E200 connecting it the 2x 80GB SATA disks without corrupting any data? then hot swap the 80GB disks for the 500GB one at a time? If not, is there a recommended upgrade path?

RAID level between SATA controller and Smart Arrays are not compatible so there is no upgrade path more than backup/recreate/restore
