DL320 Will not recognize drives

I have 5 new DL320 servers that will not recognize the hard drives with the smartstart installation. 146gb drives, 2 per server.
part number 375872-B21. Am I missing a cable or something? I did not think I needed a raid card for two drives.

Hi Chuck,

Welcome to the ITRC forums.

According to the QuickSpecs which you can find here:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12572_na/12572_na.html

"Serial Attached SCSI - SAS Hard Drives are only supported with optional SAS HBA or RAID cards."

So yes you will need a SAS controller and the cable kit. Part numbers can also be found in the QuickSpecs.

Hi Chuck,

As a minimum it looks like you'd want something like:

411508-B21 Smart Array E200 Controller
398307-B21 HP SATA/SAS 1U Cable Kit

You might want to investigate the other SAS controllers as well...
