DL320 sound (noise)

Is it normal that in a airco controlled server room a HP DL320G2 noisier is than a HP DL380G3?

Even worse, I can hear the server trough 3 walls and 50meters of office space.

I think this is unacceptable, is there a solution like a bios upgrade for this problem?

Re: DL320 sound (noise)

Hello Tom,
If you have not updated the BIOS then please do. Here is the link in case you need it:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/20124.html

After you update the BIOS please go in F9 during POST and set the fan speed to low.

Also please update the support pack which shall install software which may take care of the noisy fans for you. Here is the link for the support pack:

Re: DL320 sound (noise)

Updated bios. -> no change

Installed RH7.2 with the management system driver -> no noise :-)

I like to run astaro linux on the DL320, but the management drivers must be installed in order to keep the fanspeed down.

Astaro Linux is not supported by HP, is there someway to get this working?

Re: DL320 sound (noise)

I hate to butt in the middle of a conversation, but I have a similar problem with these servers. I HAVE to run a non-server version of a MS Windows OS (either 2000pro or XP pro). I have users sitting at the servers all the time and while I can install XP pro, I still can├в t run the management drivers.

Any suggestions? From anyone?

thanx

Re: DL320 sound (noise)

Does someone have a clue how to solve this on a
Debian distribution ?

We did already add a simpler ide controller to
get the debian part running.

Re: DL320 sound (noise)

use rpm2cpio, then you can extract the files out of the rpm file. And then compile the kernel modules.

I can also mail/ftp you the extracted files in a tgz.

Re: DL320 sound (noise)

Hi Tom,

Am also interested in getting the gz files for the noise problem under Debian on a DL320 if you don't mind.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could please send them to me on coconnor@uncc.ch or let me know where to download them from?

It would help us out a lot.
