DL320 with HP 8 SAS HBA RAID Configuration

I'm having problems establishing a RAID 1 mirrored volume on a new DL320 G3 with a HP 8 SAS/SATA HBA. The server is as BIOS version 2005.08.16, and the LSI SAS1068 HBA (HP 8) is at MPT Firmware Revision 0.03.43.00-IR with LSI Logic MPT Setup Utility v6.01.08.01 2005.10.28B).

When I attempt to create the RAID 1 pair, the system displays, 'Creating RAID Array' and after about 5 minutes times out with an error 'An error occurred while writing non-volatile settings'.

The hard drives are Maxtor 6L080M0 1G10 80GB drives, and are present in physical location 0&1. I have also tried locations 4&5 with the same results.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have u tried BIOS update for HP SAS/SATA HBA.

I found a patch called -

Yes, I have update both the system BIOS and HBA firmware to the latest version posted on the HP web site.

Sounds like the controller is having trouble writing to itself or the disk. Try creating a RAID0 first, see if that works and just one of the drives is the issue. Otherwise, A warranty issue. Send it back to HP and buy a straight Adaptec.
