DL360 CR3 LED on raid controller

Hi to all,
Hope someone with some hardware knowledge can help?

I have a DL360 which is no longer booting from its harddrives.
On bootup the raid controller complains it cannot see any physical disks. I have tried the disks in another server and they work fine.

On removing the top plate and rebooting, a small red LED appears with the markings CR3 above the second hard drive slot, does anyone know what this may be indicating?

Smartstart diagnostics does not report anything wrong, and a firmware upgrade doesn't fix it either.

Unfortunately we have no support contract on this server!

If anyone could help, or offer advice on things to try I would be most grateful.

Thanks

Phil

Re: DL360 CR3 LED on raid controller

Phillip,
What model server is this? Generation 1?

If so my money is that your ROC chip is dead, extremely common failure in 360 G1's. They are dirt cheap if I recall (I think around 40 bucks). We had a stock pile of those and power supplies as they used to fail constantly.

If you have another 360 lying around, swap the chip out with it and give it a go.

Its a G4, did the problem with the ROC chip still exist then?

Re: DL360 CR3 LED on raid controller

Hi Phil,

Take a look at the maintenance service guide available here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00218204/c00218204.pdf

The diagram on page 69 should hopefully help you identify which LED is lit, and what the problem is...

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Re: DL360 CR3 LED on raid controller

Hi Phil,

The SCSI backplane can be a problem on these models. Disks are sometimes not seen.

Please see this advisory.

Re: DL360 CR3 LED on raid controller

As suggested it was the scsi backplane, gave it a good hard shove and the array controller can once again see its disks.

Thanks to all who responded, these forums are a reason in themselves to invest in HP hardware.

Have a great weekend

Phil
