DL360/DL380 G5 with P400 RAID 1 Config Issue

I have a DL 360 G5 RAID 1 running Windows 2008 Server, and I want to transfer the Drive 1 hard drive to a DL 380 G5 server into the same slot also with a RAID 1 configuration.

All I have been able to do so far is boot up off of Drive 1(using the DL360 G5 Drive 1 hard drive), however the HP Array Configuration Utility (running Windows 2008 Server) refuses to accept a replacement hard drive in slot Drive 2 so that it can begin rebuilding itself as a RAID 1. The ACU also does not give me the option of adding Drive 2 as an available spare so that Drive 1 may use it as its rebuild target.

It does allow me to create a completely new logical drive using Drive 2, but doing that does not allow me to merge Drive 1 and get a RAID 1 configuration.

From the moment you plugged in the 1st drive from the 360 to the 380, it got modified by the 380 and got out of sync and is disassociated from the original raid1 pair.

Is drive2 the second drive from the DL360 raid1 pair? The SA on the 380 recognized that drive as a raid1 drive as well and probably wants to use it as such. These two drives are treated as if they are from separate arrays.

What is the status of the first drive/array? Isn't it in a degraded state?

You need a blank drive to use as a hot spare or as a drive to rebuild the original array.

Why don't you go along with that? Then delete the new logical drive (and array) to clear up the second drive and try to use it as hot spare or as a replacement drive for the original array.

Re: DL360/DL380 G5 with P400 RAID 1 Config Issue

ensure you can boot on one of the disks

remove it ,then on other server erase array when there is no disk in it via fd f8 now insert disk boot up
then add other disk it should start auto rebuild,,

enjoy
