Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
I also had issues with the G10 and booting from USB when I tried to update to the latest version of Intelligent Provisiong. I used a portable DVD writer.
I burned the image to a DVD, plugged the portable DVD player into the front USB port on the G10, and successfully completed the one time boot to USB with this process.

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
We digged deeper and it goes stranger and stranger....
A 16GB USB-Pen works, and a 64GB Sandisk works "some times". This means some times the server see's the pen in the boot-menu, and sometimes not. You have to try different usb-ports and hope that it see's the pen. If the pen is in the boot-menu, it boots. But: Some times it works and some times not :-) Let me explain: It starts the kernel & initrd, while the spp is booting it "grab's" the pen to load more data. And this is what works some times ans some times not. You need a lot of luck, and then may be it works.
The same pen with same software works from G4 up to Gen9. Never had problems.
It is a bios bug on the ML350 Gen10, DL360 Gen10 and DL380 Gen10! And may be more....
So please fix it. ;-)

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
I never had any problem to boot a Gen10 from USB.
However, consider to try the new 1.50 firmware.
Example DL380 Gen10:

Hope this helps!

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
Good for you, but we have problems.
We tested 1.50 and it does also not work (same as before).
If the G10 likes your USB-Device, it works, otherwise not.

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
I think I asked this before - did you check if secure boot is enabled?
And in case you try virtual media - the maximum image size is 8GB.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
I have the same problem with legacy boot from USB drive on a DL G10 server.
I need a solution from HPE.
BIOS is configured to legacy boot.
USB boot is activated, no setting that would prevent booting from USB.
(It's not UEFI boot, so ther is no secure boot, uefi optimized boot or anything)
The USB drive boots on every system I tested, including DL G9 server.
Why is it so hard for HPE to get legacy boot working in G10 servers????
There is no alternative for me.

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
It is not only legacy boot, it happens also with UEFI boot. And it has also nothing todo with secure boot.
It depends on the USB-Device if it works or not (Sandisk is not working in my case and Toshiba is working).
Tested this morning on a DL380 G10 with Sandisk:
SPP is booting up (UEFI-Mode), then it can not mount the root file system and drop to a shell. If you use the command "fdisk -l" it shows NOTHING. Now you can unplug and replug the USB-Device and "fdisk -l" shows it. But if you now run the init script (/init) it does not work. We try to find a "work a round" for this issue.
Interesting: After booting the server more or less 10 times, it works! Same usb (Sandisk) on the same server. And again: Same Sandisk on G9 works ALWAYS.

Re: DL360 G10 servers and lack of support
Hello mate. I had the same problem here.
I had to read the following articles just to get RAID and OS started.
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00018944en_us
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c00729544
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c05343991
All good now. I have to build 14 servers. This got me going. Hope it helps you the same way it hepped me.
