DL360-G2/DL380-G3 Exchange disk - will lost data ?

Hi,

first of all sorry for my english and for this confused subject.

I have a DL360 G2 Server with 2*147GB in RAID-1 drives miroring mode.

I will have in few days a DL380 G3 proliant and will sell DL360.

My simple question is will I be able to pull the drivers from 360 and then juste put them in DL380, creating an array then all is ok ? Of course I don't want to lost datas.

does this work that way ??

thanks.

Hello,

shutdown the server, pull the drives, put them into the new server and start the server. The controller will detect the array and you will not have to do anything. But changing vom G2 to G3 can result in problems with W2K3 (drivers etc). So you should have a backup. ;)

You can also try the following:

Shutdown the old server, pull the first disk and put it into the new server. Start the servern and check if the server comes up. If yes, you can add the second disk and the rebuild of the RAID 1 will begin.

Thanks for your prompt answer.

I was planing to make a backup anyway :)

Yes I saw threads telling problems about blue scrren in W2K, but I'm running under Debian Lenny, I hope I won't have the same kind of problems.

thanks.
