DL360 G3 servers with 6GB RAM

Hi,

I have a DL360 G3 servers with 3 GB RAM and windows 2003. I have recently installed another 3GB of RAM (Total 6GB) but the OS only shows 3.50 GB. Any solution on this?

I have read the hardware specs and the specs define max RAM of 6GB.

Re: DL360 G3 servers with 6GB RAM

First of all: what edition of w2k3 have you got - standard or enterprise? Standard supports only up to 4GB of physical memory - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/features/comparefeatures.mspx#Hardware%20Specifications

Rgds.

My Mistake. The server is DL380 G3. I have w2k3 Enterprise edition installed on the server.

PAE switch will help you
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283037/en-us

"[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect /PAE "

Re: DL360 G3 servers with 6GB RAM

I had the same problem with a DL360 G4 Server, first of all as it was posted before, Windows Server 2003 Standard only supports 4 GB of RAM (which was my case), my server had 5 GB but Windows only recognised 3.5 GB, so I called the HP Call Center and sent me this article: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=PSD_EL041214_CW01&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
It says that this (and others) model's chipset reserves 256 MB RAM for each PCI express slot even if it is no used (I've got two, so I am wasting 512 MB RAM!!). I have not performed the PAE procedure that the article refers to because the HP technician told me the system could have a performance decay and the other 512 MB are not really necessary...for now.
Good Luck

Re: DL360 G3 servers with 6GB RAM

Hi,

I have the same problem. I have determined that the system is using all 6GB of RAM but Windows does not seem to display the information correctly. Did anyone provide you with any information on how to resolve this issue?

Thank you.
