DL360 G3s Blue Screen Daily

We have two DL360 G3s that were purchased at the same time which have started crashing with Blue Screen messages (STOP code 0x0000007F). One has crashed every day this week at various times in the morning, while the other crashed yesterday afternoon. The Dump file seems to suggest a problem with the q57xp32.sys driver file. We have upgraded to the latest Gigabit driver from HP (7.74) but the problem still remains. Both machines run Windows Server 2003 with all the latest MS patches and are attached to a Cisco 2970 Switch. Searches on the HP site and the Internet generally have yielded no clues.

Can anyone offer any guidance?

Kevin:

Are you using the latest bios on the DL360 G3:

MS K/B Article:

Re: DL360 G3s Blue Screen Daily

John,

thanks for the reply. Both these servers have the latest BIOS as shown on the website. I had seen the MS article you mention but, as the latest BIOS had been installed, I had not followed up with the Intel CPU checks.

Re: DL360 G3s Blue Screen Daily

Hi Kevin:

Replacing the processor will fix that issue as per MS article. Since the latest firmware did not fix the issue.

I had 5 of these cases with DL360G3, DL380G3, ML350G3 and ML370G3; this is the issue with the Microcode processor update from Intel.

Possible defective processors.

to test this theory ; run Server diagnostics from smartstart looped over one weekend and server should lockup this will put a stress on the processor.

Tarek.

Tarek,

thank you for the advice. We have now contacted our supplier and are arranging for replacement processors.

Re: DL360 G3s Blue Screen Daily

We have had the servers replaced, but they are still crashing. Analysis of the Dump file indicates a problem with the q57xp32.sys NIC driver. I have had a look on the web site and there is a driver that is supposed to fix this problem. However, we were already running a newer driver. We tried downgrading to the specific driver from the web, but this still did not fix the problem. Does anyone have any other ideas? This problem is now so urgent that my manager is talking about buying Dell servers in future!

Hi Kevin,
I too am experiencing a very similar problem no dump file info however.

Did you sort this out if so , what was the problem?

Thanks

Re: DL360 G3s Blue Screen Daily

Wade,

we spoke to HP and they said it was a problem with the NIC driver. They sent us a beta driver but that did not fix the problem. We then contacted Microsoft and sent them the dump file. They found a problem with the number of filters loaded on the server. After further investigation they sent us a revised NTFS.SYS driver which fixed the problem. I haven't heard back from them yet as to whether the hotfix is available publicly, so I cannot give you a KB article - all I can suggest is that you contact Microsoft Support and tell them exactly what I've told you.

Good Luck,

Kev
