DL360 G4 Power Savings Mode?

Running a DL360 G4 as an OpenBSD firewall.

Wanted to change power regulator for Proliant to "Enable HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode"

When we do that at boot time before the operating system is booted we get a console message saying the

machine cannot run in the Dynamic Power Savings Mode because of the current processor configuration and that it will run in full performance mode.

The only boot rom configuration besides the power mode which was set via iLO (BTW) and indicated in the ROM setup was to turn CPU hyper threading OFF.

So does this configuration support power savings mode (or what do we have to change?)

System ROM P52 7/16/2007

Proc 1: 3000 MHz Processor 1 Internal L1 Cache: 16 KB Processor 1 Internal L2 Cache: 1024 KB

Proc 2: 3000 MHz Processor 2 Internal L1 Cache: 16 KB Processor 2 Internal L2 Cache:1024 KB

Re: DL360 G4 Power Savings Mode?

OpenBSD

But we get the message before any operating system is booted.

Before even the prompt about PFX for raid controller etc.

In another message there was mention that the feature might not exist for CPUs that are < 3.4Ghz?

Re: DL360 G4 Power Savings Mode?

ProLiant servers support various power savings options, including Power Regulator for ProLiant and ACPI-based OS demand-based switching.

Included in Power Regulator for ProLiant is the HP Dynamic Power Savings mode, a mode where the system performs real-time switching to select the lowest power state to meet the server’s application load. In addition, the HP Static Low Power mode or Static High Power mode can be used to operate the server at a constant low power or high power state, respectively. Power regulator support requires processor, and ROM support

DL380 G4 OS

demand-based switching : Supported

Minimum ROM version : P51_0427.05

Minimum operating system versions HP recommends for demand-based switching :
