DL360 G4 does not boot from C: RAID array when cold booted.

Hi, I have a DL360 G4 with 2 300GB 10K disks in RAID 1, but once I have installed an OS it does not boot from the C: when cold booted. If i Ctrl-alt-del it then boots! I have checked in BOIS the controller order and boot order, and all seems fine. I have tried two installs now, one with SS 7.10 and SS7.20 and still same result, I think its a hard ware error rather than s/w, as It dosnt seem to ever see the C: drive. server F/W is 2/12/04 and 6I f/w is 2.36, anyone any ideas ? Fauly backplane or mobo maybe ?

Thanks

Hi Andy,

It sounds like you have the SATA model server, correct me if I am wrong

What is the "Boot controller order" in the BIOS?

and where does it end when you cold boot? what is the last message you got on the screen?

Re: DL360 G4 does not boot from C: RAID array when cold booted.

Hi Amha Kassa, thanks your your quick reply.
Its a U320 SCSI model, order in BIOS is...
Order is
IPL
A:
d:
C: (hard disk)
PXE
C: USB disk

Controller order is
6i
Onboard IDE.

It boots to the point of looking for a bootable a: diskette, then CD, then it hangs on c: hard drive for around 5 mins, then it tries PXE and the USB, its as if the array is empty. Then it carries on this cycle till it finds a boot device.

Reset HDD & SCSI backplane, remove completely and push it back

Hallo,
on a DL360G4 the connection between SCSI Backplane and Mainboard is often not correct. Please check this connection!
