the com port has decided to stop working
no amount of reboots will get it back
have removed and re-installed it , still the same
have heard that the Bios can 'kidnap' it on the DL360 , does nayone know about this issue and the fix,
Thanks

SolutionData transfer to any ProLiant server through the Serial COM port may stop when the Command Line Interface feature of Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) is enabled. Serial port communication will become unresponsive and no data will be transmitted or received by the host server through the serial COM port when the Command Line Interface (CLI) is enabled.
When iLO firmware is configured for the CLI to be enabled, it will monitor data being sent through the serial COM port to the host server. If the transmitted data matches the ASCII character string "ESC-SHFT-9," the iLO CLI will be invoked and the firmware will switch the DB9 connector from the system Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) to the iLO UART. All further incoming serial COM port data is directed to iLO instead of the host server.
Note: This event is rare and the likelihood of occurrence is small.
SCOPE
Any ProLiant server configured with the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Firmware Version 1.60 (or later).
A list of ProLiant servers with the iLO management feature is maintained at the following URL:
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/manage/supported-servers.html
RESOLUTION
For continuous data transfer through the Serial COM port, use the procedures provided below to reset iLO:
Power on the server.
Browse to the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Web-based interface IP address using a Web browser.
Login to Integrated Lights-Out (iLO).
Click on the Administration tab.
Click on the Network Settings link in the left side frame.
Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the Network Settings web page.
iLO will reset and the COM port will release.
The CLI feature can be disabled in version iLO Firmware 1.60 (or later). The latest iLO Firmware can be downloaded from the HP Lights-Out Products Software and Drivers web site located at the following URL:
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/support/files/lights-out/us/index.html

Re: DL360 G4p COM 1 PORT not working
Clearing the system configuration
To clear the system configuration:
1. Power down the server
3. Remove the access panel look at the diagram on it it will show the position of the maintenace switch( it clears Nv ram)
4. Change position 6 of the system maintenance switch to on.
5. Install the access panel
6. and power up the server
7. Wait for the POST message that prompts you to change the switch setting:
Maintenance switch detected in the "On" position.
Power off the server and turn switch to the "Off" position.
8. Repeat steps 1 through 3.
9. Change position 6 of the system maintenance switch to off.
10. Repeat steps 5 through 7.
this will set bios to defaults and get trid of gremlins if any
