DL360 G4p CPU in a G4

As above really, will a G4p 3.6/2m xeon work in a standard G4 server? Thanks.

Ryan-
The Intel chips on the DL380 G4 and DL360 G4p are the same, and as is the chipset on the system board. All you would need is the heat sink that fits properly into the DL380 G4.
Good Luck.

Re: DL360 G4p CPU in a G4

Thanks for the reply Andrew however I was referring to a DL360 G4p CPU in a DL360 G4, as I understand the p version uses 2mb cache xeons and the G4 only 1mb/cache xeons.

I have since sourced a 1mb xeon so this question is somewhat irrelevant to me now, it would however still be interesting to know the answer!

Rgds Ryan.

Ryan-
Sorry, I guess I lose points for not reading your post properly!

The chipsets on the G4p and G4 are different, so a CPU rated for the G4p would NOT work in a DL360 G4. Bus speeds are different as well.

Good Luck with your upgrade.

Yeah kinda as I expected, thought I'd have an ask anyway :]

Thanks Andrew
