Hi all,
I had bought a 2nd HP DL360 G5 server with a 256M P400i BBWC.
On the ACU, it show me a warning of ! Say that the battery is failed and dischanged!
I had ask the sale give me other battery to replace it on today, but after boot, the server in ACU still see the same error
263 Smart Array P400i in Embedded Slot has one or more cache module batteries/capacitors that are failed. Caching operations such as Expansion, Extension, and Migration are temporarily suspended until the batteries/capacitors are replaced. Please consult the user guide to identify and replace the failed components.
Why like that, two battery also died? How lont to full charing a full discharged battery on general?
This Server I am upgrade all Firmware to the latest already with latest driver that can find in HP Driver web site (W2K8 R2).
Thank you of your time and help.

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi,
Have a good look at the battery pack, it should be completely flat, if when you run your fingers over the surface it is bulging a little, the cells are dead.
Cheers

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Also look on the remark "Date MM/YY" on the battery (398648-001). Its the manufacturer date.
So, thats an indication how 'old' the battery is.

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi Skotte,
Yes it outlook is very good, it is flat on both died battery, so real can't see any wrong on them.
Look like I need find other 2nd for luck ...
Why not buy 1st is because this server is my private server place in my working company do for test, lab etc. (My company not rich)
So anything if possibile I will just buy 2nd.

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi,
If the cells are not bulging, then the cells should at least hold a charge.
This could be the firmware, the P400 has a nasty habit of reporting a dead battery when it's actually good.
I would suggest updating the Controller firmware and running the server for 2 hours and see if that fixes the problem.
Cheers

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Firmware Version: 7.24 already when I am replace the first battery to the other one the sale give me.
And boot up over 2 days still same report.
It make the server performance slow down, I am thinking, just can force it enable the write cache on it.
Just want to ask one thing, if lose the battery, do it still can expend size of the HDD if later I replace the old smaller size one to the bigger size one like that in my case now (On force enable the write cache whatever the battery working or not (it report failed) )
If not work of the expend disk, then how to do this? By offline mode?
Thank you.

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi,
It could be the controller which has failed, a bad cable from the controller, or the battery.
Talk to the people you purchased the server from, can they loan you a controller with a battery cable?
The P400i controller requires the battery to expand the array.
Cheers

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Skotte,
Tonight after I am off duty, I go to the shop ask for exchange the Controller already.
But look like he give me a real old board.
The bad one (LSI *) Logo, the exchange one P400i is LSI LOGIC text version, and the BIOS is 1.18 on it Label I see.
One questions here, before exchange the P400i controller, I am running on Firmware 7.x, if not just place the Firmware 1.18 P400i card, do it will hurt my OS or will it will boot failed?
Or before boot the OS, I need upgrade the Firmware first?
Thank you of your suggestion, time and help.
Best Regards,
Jimmy Chan
