DL360 G5 : how to expand active Raid 5

DL360 G5 is set with 5 X 146Gb SAS as RAID5.
the Os is latest version of VMware ESXi.

Can I expand the capacity if I'll add another 146Gb? If yes, how?

Thanks.

Re: DL360 G5 : how to expand active Raid 5

You need to have the BBWC option installed on the array controller to be able to add the 6th drive. The P400 calls it "array expansion", the E200 calls it "capacity expansion". You did not say what you intend to do with the extra space, add it to existing logical drives or create new ones. There are more steps involved if you add the new space to existing logical drives.

thanks for the fast response.

1. what is BBWC?

2. only increase the size of the datastore to add NEW VM's or virtual disks.

Battery Backed Write Cache.

This is a 3-step process. First you add the new drive using the array expansion feature.
Then you have to either expand existing logical drive(s) or create new ones. If you expand existing drives, you have to check if ESX supports dynamic partition (LUN or Logical Drive) expansion.
