DL360 Gen9 , high cpu temperature
Hello Everyone,
I have recently got new dl360 gen 9 server (2 CPUs 2660v4 , 80GB RAM - 10x8GB).
I applied SPP that has been released in October 2016 (ROM 2.30, Ilo 2.50) and installed HP vmware image.
Everything went well until I realized the average cpu temperature is 55-60C.
So, If temperature goes up to 60C fans start speed up to 30% and temperature goes down till 50-54C, and then stars slowly raise up to 60C.
My question what could be the issue?
We already created ticket with HP but they didn’t find anything fishy.
All other servers we are operating using CPU 2650 v4 , and running on 40C (for CPU).
So, I cant understand why it’s so huge difference between 2650 and 2660 cpu temperature.
Because we (wrongly) have chosen 10x8Gb RAM, RAM frequency is 2133Mhz and not 2400 Mhz.
Could this give additional heating to CPUs?
Any other ideas why CPU temperature is such abnormal?
Anything I may adjust in BIOS?
Thank you in advance,
Aleks.

Re: DL360 Gen9 , high cpu temperature
I am having the same problem in a DL380p.
I think iLO reads the CPU temperature from another sensor than the CPU one.
I have two DL380p's: 1) has the latest BIOS and iLO 2.72 with CPUs Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2643 0 @ 3.30GHz., and 2) older BIOS and iLO 2.02 with CPUs Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2665 0 @ 2.40GHz
In 1) the CPU temps are always fixed to 40C, and in 2) the CPU temps change, but always are way below (around 30C) from the readings I get from psensor.
