DL360 cannot boot from floppy drive
I have installed a DL360-G2 with smart start 5.4 with Windows2000 server with sp3.
I cannot boot from the internal floppy drive to make a system image.
I have altered the F9 System options (IPL Boot Order) to set the floppy drive as the first boot device.
When this setting is altererd, the server keeps booting into the System Partition Utilities (F10)untill i alter the IPL for Smart Array boot First.
I am puzzled as to how this is possible ?
Secondly i am curious to know how i can update my Proliant with the latest smart start pack(im thinking this might be the issue).
Is this the support software pack and can it be run from windows ? or do i need the smart start cd's ?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
rmk

Re: DL360 cannot boot from floppy drive
See Software - Support Pack you can do from O/S, Update System ROM firstly
After do SCSI and NIC Updates
For FDD Clear NVRAM and Try again (from F9)
In G2 server you don't need F10 Partition
Verify if FDD ribbon cable connected well at SCSI backplane lower and upper part

Re: DL360 cannot boot from floppy drive
thanks for your reply.
I had already downloaded the support pack.
Is this support pack to be compared with a later release smart start then the one i have now? Because the support pack can be run from windows im wondering where the EISA partition fits in, are these files also updated when installeing the support pack ?
Furthermore i wonder how to clear the Fdisk NVRAM ?
Do i not need to boot from floppy to update the ROM first ? or is this also in the support pack, like an online flash.
Thank you in advance,
rmk

Re: DL360 cannot boot from floppy drive
EISA partition - you mind: Rom based Partition for Older Servers? Almost in all First Generation servers and Proliant you supposed to install Rom based Partition (F10), after G2 there was no necessarily, you access to F9 and configure Your Server. Proliant support software Pack if you scroll down at download able Page you can see matrix of installed Components. Normally it's only drivers and Applications, all firmware's should be done separately. NVRAM you access trough F9 at POST - > select advanced options and see NVRAM option. System ROM you can select Online Update - easier to apply.
Steps
1. http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/20873.html
2. http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19613.html
3. SCSI Driver 5.62
4. Nic driver
Can you copy and read files from Floppy diskette when system up?

PSP 7.10 also part of Smart Start CD 7.10, you can download one
