DL360p Gen8 with P421 RAID and a D2600 shelf always reports "Missing Drives" for logical disks

Hello,

I wanted to connect a D2600 Shelf to my DL360p Gen8 with a HP Smart Array P421 Raid controller. The Raid Controller is running the latest version 8 (but also tried it with version 6.0 which was previously installed). I wanted to build a RAID 6 with 12 drives. The creation process of that raid works just fine, when I boot into the OS I can see a block device with the capacity I need. 

But once I do a reboot the controller tells me that there are missing drives in the logical drive. I then enter the Option ROM Configuration for Arrays, go to "Show logical drives" and select my RAID 6 which has the status "MISSING DRIVES" and I can see all physical drives just fine, all are "OK" and appear in the list.

To maybe narrow it down to some slots that might be broken I then created 12 RAID 1s, booted the first time with all of them appearing, did a reboot and three went into the "MISSING DRIVES" state. Then removed those logical drives, pulled the drives from the enclosure and rebooted again just to see that some others now decided to go "missing".

I'm kind of at a loss here on what to do with this, has someone experienced something similar and/or can help me?

Hi,

Have you tried updating the firmware for D2600, hard drives and P421 to 8.32?

Also check if the hard drives are compatible with the controller and D2600.

Hi,

The P421 is on version 8.32, the drives are on the latest firmware as well. But I can't update the D2600, the Server/Shelf is no longer under any support contract with HP and I haven't found a way to download the update for the shelf without support? The D2600 is currently on firmware 0131

I would suggest update the server with the latest bios and firmware with the D2600.

If the issue still persist share the below detail for further investigations.

1. 7-segment Display indication.
