DL365 How to disable pci fibre channel card adapter (hba) in BIOS?

Hi,

I have been able to disable the QLogic QLA2460 (HP FC1143) 4GB PCI-X 2.0 HBA card installed in my DL380, DL365, and DL385 servers by going into System BIOS > PCI Devices, select the PCI card, and choose "Disabled" instead of an IRQ #.

I do not see this option in the newest DL365 (G1) I purchased. I can only change the IRQ #. I called HP and they recommend I upgrade to the latest BIOS version (from 3/27/2008 -> 5/29.2008). I have done this and the option still does not exist.

Has anyone run into this problem, and are there any work arounds besides unplugging the cable? The reason why I disable the FC Card is so I can reinstall the OS without having to worry about accidently writing to the SAN. My systems are at a remote site so it is difficult for me to get remote hands and eyes often.

Thank you for your feedback!

Rather than use the BIOS to disable the FC Card why not remove that FC WWN from your fabric zoning on the SAN switch?
You should be able to do it remotely and without fear of writing to the SAN.
