DL370 doesn't always shutdown - Windows 2008 x64

We have a few ML370's running Windows 2008 x64 with SP2. When I shutdown the OS (through start menu or power button on server)about 1/2 the time the server shuts down as expected, however half the time it shuts down the OS, powers off, but then it automatically turns on again after a few seconds. It is defintely different to a reboot as you hear it power off then on again. The light sequence on the server and disks is also consistent with a shutdown then power on, not a reboot\restart.

I have run the latest smartstart CD and perfomed all offline tests and diagnostics. No errors were detected. It is happening on three servers running Windows Server 2008 x64 with Service Pack 2. I have tried the following but the behaviour is still the same:


- Run latest Firmware Update CD (8.6)
- Run latest HP PSP (8.3)
- Removed all Nic teaming
- Disabled Wake on LAN in BIOS
- Disabled Windows setting “Automatically restart” on system failure in Windows
- Removed all network cables.

Any ideas?

P.S its a G6 server.

The latest firmware cd ( 8.6 ) might not contain the latest BIOS.

The latest BIOS was released after the release of Firmware cd.

Why dont you try, updating the BIOS to the latest version to 2009.10.01 (29 Oct 2009)

Has lots of fixes in it. Might fix ur issue too.

I have tried this BIOS update, no luck problem still exists.
