DL380 G1 system date unstable since dual cpu

Hello,

I have upgraded my DL380 with a 2nd CPU (933 MHz) and recompiled Linux Kernel 2.4.17 for SMP (it runs on Debian GNU Linux 3.0).

After that I noticed, that the system date got unstable. Also seen in many logfiles and directly the shell. If I enter the command _date_ in short intervalls on the console, I get this:

pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date
Thu Apr 3 00:36:33 CEST 2003
pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date
Thu Apr 3 00:36:31 CEST 2003
pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date

pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date

pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date

pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date
Thu Apr 3 00:36:31 CEST 2003
pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ date
Thu Apr 3 00:36:31 CEST 2003

My cpuinfo says this:

pinkadv@pinkadv:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo

I have also a new DL380 G3 with 2 CPU on RedHat 8.0 Kernel 2.4.18-24.8.0. On this machine, the system date is absolutely correct and stable.

Does anybody knows, is this problem a Kernel-Bug or is the second CPU on the old DL380 not ok (also in case of the _bogomips_)?

Sorry for that long thread and my bad english.

Rgds, Peter

Peter,

One item to check. Make sure that both of the processors were manufactured in the same country. I've had several bizzare issues when the processers were manufactured in different countries (You'll have to remove the heat sinks and look at the labels on the processors, then replace with new heat sink compound).

Hi Dave

On Intel Website, I could not find any information about time drifting until yet.

I will try some other processors of the same type, and I hope it will work.
