Can Win XP run on an DL380 G2 machine? I keep getting no hard drives found.6 drives on board.Will I need a driver for the 5i raid board for the os to load? Maybe and Linux os would be better?

Windows XP is not supported on Proliant servers. You can try to use Windows 2003 SmartArray 5i driver:
HP ProLiant Smart Array 5x and 6x Controller Driver for Windows Server 2003

Yes, you will need to install a drive for the controller during the install. 2003 server driver may or 2000 drives can work. If you have trouble, check into the manufactures site for a drive for their chipset controllers
