Solution1) A processor and its PPM must be installed in the first processor location
2) The Processor Core Frequency and Speed configuration settings cannot be changed from the factory default. The System ROM will automatically detect and configure the speed of the processor.
3) The Chassis ID switch on the system board should be left in the default positions.
4)Both processors must be the same frequency/speed. Mixing of processors with different specifications is not permitted.
5) After installing a processor and PPM, the system ROM based Setup and Configuration Utility must be ran. Save the new processor configuration to CMOS.
Regards,
James.

Re: DL380 G2 mixed steppings
normally on Proliants the processors must be same option/spare number. The stepping can be different and the CPU with lower stepping must be installed in slot 1, with higher stepping in slot 2. Before installing second CPU, update Firmware. Normally stepping can be seen after installing the CPUs in Insight Diagnostics survey. If you install the CPU with higher CPU in slot 1 there will be black screen and no POST, but it is not fatal.
Regards,
Pac
