DL380 G2 options for upgrade?

Hi Guys.

I have had a DL380 G2 1.4Mhz donated to me to run a particular application. I understand that the spec I have is (apart from adding a second CPU) the top end for this model. Unfortunately this spec is not up to the task I have in mind.

My question is, are any newer G3/4 etc. system boards & CPU compatible with the chassis, PSU and drives?

Ideally I want to update as far as possible and not have to throw the whole lot in the bin.

Many thanks in advance.

I guess this is for kind of hobby use?

The used market has newer systems (e.g. a G5) for low prices, search for it.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Thanks for the positive response.

Hobby use? not really. Just trying not to be wasteful and sometimes a small challenge can be more fun than just buying a bigger/better machine.

To be honest it will be cheaper and less wastefull to resell it on ebay or the likes and buy a DL380G4 or even better a DL385G1.  These are both available for buttons these days I've seen fully specced G4's go for well under £100.

You can then swap the drives from G2 straight into those,  if that is not a concern then a DL380G5 or DL385G2 are probably the best bet, as you gain SAS technology & PCIe expansion slots.

Cheers
