DL380 G3 Drive Array

We have a G3 with 3 Drives in a RAID 5 array. The rest of the slots are empty. The 3 drives are arranged in Ports 0,1 and 2. The drive on port 1 failed, so we pulled it out and put it back in. No rebuild happened. We upgraded the firmware and rebooted, still no rebuild. Then we noticed that the Array Controller Utility was asking for a drive in port 3?! So, we pulled the drive out and put it in port 3 and it rebuilt fine.

Question, would a Smart Array 5i know that a port may be bad, and actively switch the array slot config to a new open slot?

We aren't quite sure what happened? Anyone have any similar experience?

Re: DL380 G3 Drive Array

hi

would you mind uploading an Array Diagnostics utility Report?

would be a guess without that...
