DL380 G3 - Hotplug USB Adapter?

Hi

We have an HP Proliant DL380G3 with Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. I'd like to put in a Gainward Multi-Port Card which has 3 Firewire and 6 USB 2.0 Ports on it..

Can I hotplug this or do I need hot-plug specific drivers?

I'm hoping I can just stick it in, it'll pop up asking for the standard driver CD and automatically install..

Here's hoping!

Hi,

I am not familiar with the Gainward card you mention but a quick Google shows me that this is a standard PCI card. My understanding is that PCI devices are detected at boot time and so you cannot (and should not) attempt to hot plug this card into your running server. It must be installed into a PCI slot while the server is powered off.

When the server comes back up it will ask you for the driver which you should have been supplied with on CDROM when you bought the card.

HTH. Remember to assign points.
It's got two chances - it will either work or it won't!

Ummm.. well the DL380 G3 supports hotplug PCI, the drivers are plug and play, so I don't see why I shouldn't be able to hotplug the card?!
