DL380 G3 PCI Question

Hi All,

Will a 32bit PCI card fit and work in the 64bit PCI-X slots? I want to add two additional network cards. Since it is a lab server, I do not plan on buying PCI-X nic cards.

In theory, PCI-X is backwards compatible with 3.3v PCI 2.x cards. 5v PCI cards are not supported. The entire bus also slows down to the speed of the slowest device if you mix and match cards.

In practice, many companies in the PC hardware world seem to regard documented specifications and standards as nothing more than suggestions, so cheap cards may or may not work.
