DL380 G3 SCSI Disk Addition

I have a DL380 G3, it has 2(72.8GB 15K) Hard Disks in RAID1 for OS, 1(72.8GB 15K) Hard Disk in RAID0 for Database and 2(146.8GB 10K) Hard Disks in RAID0 for Data, I want to add another 146.8GB Hard Disk for Data but this new 146.8GB Hard Disk is of 15K, can I add this 15K Disk in the existing RAID0 or would I have to configure this disk in a new RAID0. Any suggestions plz.

Hi,

Two rules

1) in RAID 1 you can hdd in pair.
2) You can add 10k with 15K no issues at all.

Re: DL380 G3 SCSI Disk Addition

hy ,
you can absolutely install different disk (about size and speed 10K 15K ) in the same Raid topology.
i suggest you to insert the new 15K disk at original Data Raid 0 and expand the volume.
this is simple about smart array funcion.. you only need verify SO note ( about volume grow).

Re: DL380 G3 SCSI Disk Addition

Hi Prashant and Fausto, Thanx dudes for your response but still one thing in my mind. when i will configure this disk in RAID0 and expand with an existing RAID0 will i face any data loss. Also what if i expand the existing RAID0 to RAID5 with 3disks (2 previous 10K disks and 1 15K disk)

Re: DL380 G3 SCSI Disk Addition

Expanding RAID0 will not bring to any data loss. But it is good idea always have recent backup of your data :-)
Make sure you have last ProLiant Support Pack : (link for windows 2003)
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/22871.html
and firmware:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23331.html
before RAID expanding.
RAID0 to RAID5 migration also will be possible.
