DL380 G3 linux fan issue
I installed RedHat AS v3 and hpasm7.1.1-87.rhel3.i386.rpm. I expected that fan noise would reduce when hpasm drivers are loaded but there is no difference in fan speed. Ambient temperature in server room is below 20 celsius.

Re: DL380 G3 linux fan issue
I beleive the DL380 G3's use hardware to manage the speed of the fan's, not the software like most of the previous servers.

Re: DL380 G3 linux fan issue
The G3 series use both Hw + sw control.
The HW control starts the serverfans in 'low' speed, and the SW controllers silently take this over at boot time of the OS.
The 'low' fan speed if the dl380G3 is actually quite loud.
For more info on the Case, including a test, I had with this, search for dl380+fan on this forum or click on my profile.
We are now installing sound barier screens in the equipment room..
