DL380 G3 will not power off

When I shut down the OS (Win 2000 server) the server does not power off, I just get the "it's now safe to turn off your computer" screen.
The other DL380 G3 I have power off after OS shutdown.
So probably I have changed a setting somewhere that caused this, but where??

Re: DL380 G3 will not power off

You need to enable APM Support in the Control Pannel as well as in the RBSU (Hit F9).
APM is under the Advanced Options.

Also, be sure to load the health drivers on your server, this could be the problem as well:

Enjoy!

Re: DL380 G3 will not power off

Hi,

Can I check if you have installed the Proliant Support Pack?

FYI

Re: DL380 G3 will not power off

Hi,

Your server is ACPI compliant but you may have it set as "Standard PC" and this is causing the problem.

Look in the device manager and expand the first entry "Computer". This will tell you if it's set for :-

ACPI Multiprocessor PC
ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Standard PC
etc.etc.

Compare the working and non-working server entries here.

I think it's more difficult than just changing the driver to fix the problem so seek advice first. There are a number of entries on the Microsoft support site including the following links.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;246236&Product=win2000

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;216573

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q242/4/14.ASP

Make sure you are 100% confident before changing it and of course take a full system backup.

I hope this helps,

something else to try, if you have video, keyboard and mouse going to a kvm, try plugging them directly into server and try

Re: DL380 G3 will not power off

Hi,

Are we facing the same problem while we are in safe mode.

If yes, then
My assumption if its working in safe mode then some application is still running at backgrounds which leads to abnormal behaviour while shutting down. So try to reduce the application working in backgrund then check agian. Where as check you registry startup option is there any unwanted application started at post.

Re: DL380 G3 will not power off

hi,

as replied by brian, I also assume it's a problem related to ACPI or NOn ACPI HAL of your server. you please follow the links given in his reply.

regards,

PS: sometimes this problem occurs if you have installed imporper UPS support in your OS. so, please check if you have configured any UPS.

Brian > the working server is ACPI uniprocessor PC while the non-working is MPS uniprocessor PC so I guess this is my problem.
If I undestand the microsoft document thet you linked to right then I have to install windows again on top of my existing installation, but what will happen if I do this? The server is configured as domain controller, will I have to do all the configuration again??
