DL380 G3 with BBWC Enabler

Running a DL380 G3 with Windows 2003 Standard. 128mb BBWC enabler has been installed.

Array Configuration Utility 7.15.19.0 provides the following information under "Array Accelerator" for "Smart Array 5i Controller in Embedded Slot" (Rev B, v2.58):

Array Accelerator
Present Yes
Cache Status Enabled
Accelerator Ratio 50% Read /50% Write
Read Cache Size 24 MB
Write Cache Size 24 MB
Battery Pack Count 1
Battery Status OK

Are the Read and Write Cache Sizes correct considering the extra 128mb provided by the BBWC ?

Thanks,
RT

Re: DL380 G3 with BBWC Enabler

you need to verify what you see from ADU for
Total Ctlr Memory Size:

a few Examples bellow
when Daughterboard Size(MB): 64

Example

ACCELERATOR STATUS:
Logical Drive Disable Map: 0x00000000
Read Cache Size: 24 MBytes
Posted Write Size: 24 MBytes
Disable Flag: 0x00
Status: 0x00000109
Disable Code: 0x0000
Total Memory Size: 48 MBytes
Battery Count: 1

When 16MB reserved by controller

When you have 128 + 64 On-board

Recovery ROM Inactive
Image Revision: 2.36
Recovery ROM Active Image
Flags Status: 0x01
Percent Write Cache: 50
Daughterboard Size(MB): 128
Cache Battery Count: 1
Total Ctlr Memory Size: 192

For Read Write only Battery baked reported

ACCELERATOR STATUS:
Logical Drive Disable Map: 0x00000000
Read Cache Size: 64 MBytes
Posted Write Size: 64 MBytes
Disable Flag: 0x00
Status: 0x00000001
Disable Code: 0x0000
Total Memory Size: 128 MBytes
Battery Count: 1

Thanks for this feedback.

I'm unable to find ADU on the server. Is there an executable I can search for ?

Using Insight Diagnostics I get the following information under storage:

Re: DL380 G3 with BBWC Enabler

Spare Part Number: 260740-001

Description: 4.8V 360mAh NiMH battery pack board - Battery Backed Write Cache (BBWC) enabler for Smart Array 5i Plus controller

5i Plus by default in all DL380 G3 comes with 64MB cache

As you posted 128MB installed ?

Re: DL380 G3 with BBWC Enabler

Thanks again for the response.

Yes, the BBWC apparently contains 128mb cache.

The server host, where this dedicated server is hosted, have thus far installed the latest firmware for the Smart Array 5i Controller, but there is still no reference to the additional cache within ADU and ACU.

We will shortly be installing a BBWC enabler on another DL380 G3 server.

It will be interesting to see whether the cache will reflect on that server.

Re: DL380 G3 with BBWC Enabler

Hello Robin,

Change the cache ratio to 100% Read, 0% Write and see if it makes a difference.

Latest firmware available,
