Then what is the point of it having the ability of 12 GIG of memory. nothing else can read that.

Last I can remember, most major "enterprise" versions of current Operating Systems support varying amounts of memory past the 12GB mark.

Windows Server 2003/2008 Enterprise32bit - Up to 64GB

16GB or more for RedHat Linux 4/5 x86

Vmware ESX 3.5 suports up to 256GB ram.
