DL380 G4 Firmware update applies no changes
I have a DL380 G4 with VMWare ESX 3.5 3i on it. All Firmware on this unit is from 2004, iLO is 1.62.
I've tried Firmware 9.10 (c), 9.10 (b), 9.0, and 8.70. The 9s boot from dvd but show a blank screen for about 2-3 mins, reboot the system and show no changes applied in the bios version or the iLo version. 8.7 boots to a HP screen, countsdown to 0, then stays on next screen with no pormpts for about 2-3 mins, reboots but applies no changes to the firmware. What am I doing wrong here?
Any help will greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: DL380 G4 Firmware update applies no changes
You could try applying separate, older updates for system ROM, before trying the newest versions from Firmware DVD. If the latest were applied in 2004, maybe that is too old for something to work.

Re: DL380 G4 Firmware update applies no changes
just go to HP.com,
click "Support&Drivers",
click "download drivers&software"
enter "dl 380 g4"
..
maybe choose "Win2003-Server"
for all downloads.
There you can find the seperated downloads

this should work, also for ESX

Re: DL380 G4 Firmware update applies no changes
I noted that you are using a DVD, to upgrade.
Beware, there's a new FW for the DVD drives.
Try to check / fix that first.
Even better, download the USB creation utility, and create the FW DVD on an USB mem stick..

Re: DL380 G4 Firmware update applies no changes
The other thing I've noticed is that the array accelerator backup battery error keeps coming up randomly - 1794-Drive Array - Array Accelerator Battery Charge Low. It's random so not sure if the battery really is the culprit here. Any suggestions?

Re: DL380 G4 Firmware update applies no changes
Do the FW upgrade, of the smart array controller.
Wait at least 3 days.
If it still fail.
Replace battery
There could be other failure reasons, and the solution could be replacement of various parts.
Beware, some smart array controllers got 2 batteries. ei the 6400.
