DL380 G4 Problem
I have a strange problem with DL 380 G4 server ( Model No: 378740-421).
Problem Description:
When we try to boot with CD ( Bootable Windows 2003 Server CD), the server will stuck at Attemting to boot from CD... and will not proceed further.
But it will boot when we unplug the hard disk.
Which means whenever hard disk is plugged in, the server will not boot from CD.
Actions Taken:
Replaced the Mother board ( Part No.: 359251-001)
Replaced the Backplane ( Part no.: 359253-001)
Tried with new Hard disk.
Updated with latest Firmware and bios updates.
Connected 641 Array controller card and tried.
Tried with Smart start CD.
But still the same problem.Need help in above said problem.
Thanks in advance.
Keep helping !!!
Parsu.

Re: DL380 G4 Problem
The Proliant DL 380 G4 has Smart Array 6i.
1. Is the harddisk/s are detected by the 6i controller.
2. Press F8 and goto 6i controller BIOS/Orca and create a new array.
3. Disconnect any USB Pendrive or USB Harddisk or Fdd connected
4. Try to Boot to Smart Start Cd and check.

Raj.

Re: DL380 G4 Problem
Hard disks are detecting by 6i controller.
By pressing F8, I deleted the RAID and created the logical drives again.
Disconnected floppy drive and there is no USB pen drive connected to the serever. But the problem is still same.

Re: DL380 G4 Problem
Do you get any error message when booting from Smart Start CD or Where excatly does it hang when booting from Smart Start CD.
I would also suggest you to open the system box and use the SW1 System Maintenance switch - S6 turn it on, restart the server. Shutdown the server and turn off the S6 switch and try to boot again and check.
Regards,
Raj.

Re: DL380 G4 Problem
If you have a USB CD-ROM drive or a spare CD-ROM drive try booting with those.
