DL380 G4 SCSI

I have a couple DL380 G4 servers running Novell OES. Each server has a 3 drive RAID 5 array using the servers hot swap bays.

Can I attach an external tape autoloader to one of the servers using the external SCSI connector. I originally assumed that the integrated Smart Array 6i controller was a 2 channel controller and this shouldn't be a problem. After reading around, I am not so sure this is the case.

Thanks
Ben

Re: DL380 G4 SCSI

Hi Ben,

please check ww.hp.com/go/connect for compatibility questions.

TapeLibraries and Autoloader need LUN Compatible Controller. The Smart Array Controller are not able to handle LUNs.

So please buy one of the following options:
64-Bit/133-MHz Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA G2 374654-B21

think thats the one with adaptec chipset, which is also support by netware (think there are some issues with LSI and Netware)

cheers

Re: DL380 G4 SCSI

Hi Benj

I had a look at the product bulletin. Although the DL380g4 SCSI model has an external SCSI connection, it is really for tape drive rather than tape library.

I would imagine if the tape library has only one drive and only connected to the server then it is worth a try. Otherwises I would agree to get an add-on card.

Thanks,

Gus
