DL380 G4 & Kingston Memory

Hello:

I recently obtained a stable of DL380 G4s (SCSI). I've been looking for memory, but I've read conflicting things - some say I have to buy HP memory, others say I don't have to. Non-HP memory is significantly cheaper, but I don't want to order something useless.

Matching spec-for-spec with the 359243-001 2GB single-rank chip from HP, I found the Kingston KVR667D2S4P5/2G from NewEgg here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134920&Tpk=KVR667D2S4P5%2f2G

Before I buy these, can anyone confirm yes or no that these will work?

Thanks,

John D

Re: DL380 G4 & Kingston Memory

hi
you must buy ram pc2-3200 not pc2-5300.
only pc2-3200.

Re: DL380 G4 & Kingston Memory

My apologies - I meant to copy this link, which IS PC2-3200, Single Rank, ECC Registered:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134284

As long as the servers don't directly reject non-HP memory, I think this should work. Does anyone know if they reject non-HP?

Thanks,

John

Re: DL380 G4 & Kingston Memory

John, it depends on ram - some can be rejected. Ram vendors have compatibility matrix (i definitely know that Transcend has and pretty sure that Kingston too) and it's better to ask reseller about compatibility between HPs p/ns and ram you want to buy from Kingston.
By the way, afaik you cannot buy compatible high-density ram (8Gb or higher) for HP servers not from HP.

Hi,

Let's be careful configuration ram, see the link below which going to wear slot.

Re: DL380 G4 & Kingston Memory

The specs all seem to match up to the original - DDR2 PC2-3200, max 2GB per slot (these are 2GB sticks), CL3, single rank. I'm going to order one from the egg and see if they work. I suppose the worst thing that could happen would be that I'd have to return them.

Thanks for the help,

Re: DL380 G4 & Kingston Memory

Bought a pair of 2GB sticks - got them today and fired them up - looks to be working properly. Thanks for the help!
