DL380 G4 temperature monitors

We have a number of HP Proliant DL380 G4 servers. When monitoring the temperatures of these systems, we see 5 entries: 1 power supply, 1 io board, and 3 cpu listings. The cpu listings report 138F, 105F, and 102F. The descriptions for these three cpu listings are all the same. Doesn anybody know what these CPU monitors represent. Each of the DL 380 G4 boxes report similar temperatures for the three monitors. What are appropriate thresholds to set for each?

Re: DL380 G4 temperature monitors

Hi,

I think all the servers are having single processor installed in it. Hence you are getting three readings. If two processors are installed, there will be 4 readings.

Two cores will have two readings. The third is a fake reading of the slot 2.

You can set Cation as 158F and Critical as 175F. (Safe settings)

Re: DL380 G4 temperature monitors

The servers are all running two Xeon single core procs. Any other suggetsions on what the 5 temperature sensors on a DL380 G4 represent?

Re: DL380 G4 temperature monitors

Access the Systems Management Homepage for a description of the sensors. The values are only relevant in relation to the thresholds.

Re: DL380 G4 temperature monitors

The System Management Homepage lists 5 settings. 3 of them are simply listed as CPU. There are 2 procs. How do you know which of the three are montoring what proc and what does the third CPU entry represent. In older systems, there is a System entry. There is not on in our DL380 G4 servers. We are trying to find out what listed sensor goes to what hardware so we know what thresholds to put for the sensors. Does anybody know how to figure out what CPU sensor goes to which hardware?

Re: DL380 G4 temperature monitors

hi,

not sure about how smh reads the settings, but you can run insight diagnosts at the same time, and from the survey choosed advanced and all from the drop downs.

Then search for the temperature in the tml doc and there should be 8 sensors which will show you the temperature in every single zone.

Then you can compare the data
