DL380 G4: using the 6i plus a 6404 possible?

Can I use the internal 6i controller together with an external MSA30 cabinet connected to a 6404 card?
Reason I'm asking that we are using an unsupported OS (FreeBSD) and it only recognises the 6i logical unit (ciss0) and the other two on the 6404 just does not show even though they are visible during boot.

Any hints welcome!

hi Per its all here click on the storage tab
ensure server has latest firmwares first from here

and update firmwares from here .. select server series tab

and you can choose 2003 osas its firmware not os related and you will end up with firmware dvd 9.0 boot from it and update all firmwares to ensure compatibility

Re: DL380 G4: using the 6i plus a 6404 possible?

OK, thanks.
But nowhere on the linked page do I see information on if the use of a 6400 controller would exclude use of the internal 6i controller, perhaps I missed it? Or if any special configuration is needed to make it work.

Re: DL380 G4: using the 6i plus a 6404 possible?

You can put in as many extra RAID controllers, as you got PCI slots.
And it does not exclude the embedded controller.

Any of the controllers can be boot controller.

Each controller has to be confgured individually.

each controller can use the disks, that they are connect to only.

So on the 6i you configure the RAID, for the drives that are connected to the 6i.

On the 6400 you configure the RAID(s)for the drives that are connected to the 6400.

You can use the ORCA or the ACU.

Quote: even though they are visible during boot.

Do you mean that there are logigal dives detected on the 6404 controller at boot time?

As far as I know the 6i an 6404 both use the same driver so I guess this should just work.
try disabling the 6i and make the 6404 the primary boot device then see if you can install directly to the 6404.

Re: DL380 G4: using the 6i plus a 6404 possible?

Yes, there is one logical drive on the 6i and two on the 6404.
By now I'm pretty sure this is a FreeBSD related problem, I popped in an OpenBSD boot CD today and it offered me da0 da1 da2 whereas FreeBSD (8.0) will only show da0.
As soon as time permits I will check further and take it to the FreeBSD forums.

Thanks all for your kind help!
