DL380 G4 with 6i controller (on board)

What i want to do is add another HDD of the same size as already fitted and make it raid 1.

In the configuration utility i only have the option of raid 0, even though the new drive is showing up.

Anyone any ideas why? the 6i controller (on board) only has 64mb ram and no additional module is fitted (under the pci riser card)

Is it a case of i need this module to upgrade to raid 1?

I am wondering this as i have an identical server that was set up originally with raid 1 and the hardware is as said identical. Is it a case of as it was set up at the start with raid thats okay but to migrate you need the extra module.

Or am i doing something stupid in the configuration utility.

Re: DL380 G4 with 6i controller (on board)

When you add an extra disk, you should get some extra options.

One extra option is expand array.
When you have finished expanding.
You get the option to extend or migrate.

So what You do:
1. add disk
2. open ACU.
3. expand array. Take some hours.
4. migrate.

Before you any thing, we need to clarify if it is possible to migrate, without BBWC.

I will check some old threats, and get back to you.

just to add to the above post it should take approx 15-20 mins per GB if the server is in production or its going to happen faster if it is idle.

Can't find any saying you need BBWC.

Check this thread.
A user called Karlo, has attached a guide.

Good luck.

ps. Just for precaution. Ensure you got a good backup.

Hmm i do not want to expand the logical drive i need to migrate it from raid 0 to raid 1.

I do not have the radio button to do this.

think ill have to get hold of a non production server and a few hdd's and have a play.

Will post my findings.

Re: DL380 G4 with 6i controller (on board)

You must expand it first.

1. Expand - It add the new drive to the Array.

2. Migrate. - Change from RAID 0 to RAID 1.

That's the procedure.
You can do it online - No reboot - No down time.

"expand BUT DO NOT SAVE CHANGES" - I didn't know that shortcut.
I have learnt something, thanks. :)

On the other hand, I don't take chances, dealing with other peopels data.
