DL380 G5 - CPU upgrade
Hi all,
I have a DL380 G5 that has the low-end CPUs (the 1.86ghz xeons) and would like to know what CPUs it can take. Looking at the manual it has a warning:
Future upgradeable to Xeon® Series 5400/5300 Quad-Core processors (Please contact your regional sales support to determine quad core upgradeability. Some of the earlier shipping models may not support this upgrade). 5100 Dual-Core models are not upgradeable to the 5200 Dual-Core processors.
So how do I determine if I have the earlier system that can't take quad cores?
Any help greatly appreciated,
Rob

Re: DL380 G5 - CPU upgrade
Hi Rob,
Dl380 G5 has two different models of system boards
System board with processor cage and battery, supporting Intel Xeon 50xx and 51xx processors - 407749-001
System board with processor cage and battery, supporting Intel Xeon 50xx, 51xx, 52xx, 53xx and 54xx processors
-436526-001
* you may have to open the chassis and find out the system board part number if you have 436526-001 it will support from 50xx to 54xx processors and if you have 407749-001 it will support only 50xx and 51xx processors
Based on what system board if you have , go through the quick specs to check all supporting processors on this servers here http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12477_na/12477_na.html
PS : If you cant find the spare part number of the server, please post the serial number here I will try and see if I can get something on that , hope this has helped you

Re: DL380 G5 - CPU upgrade
Spare part number is the spares number of the components on the server, every component has different spare number that ends with -001 , in your server on the system board it will be either 407749-001 or 436526-001, and serial number is 10 digit number printed on the chassis as S/N.

Re: DL380 G5 - CPU upgrade
Rob,
Looks like with the config data it has been configured with 407749-001 ( system board ) and the proc is 5130, this is what I see from configuration data, however it is always recommended to look on the board for confirmation.
